I'm sure I couldn't have done this on anything but an e-bike! Advice? DO NOT give up!

Nice lake views, good selection of cafés chippy's and pubs. Get there early, can get busy on sunny days.

A tranquil and beautiful spot with an excellent pub and accommodation

This point marks the start of what is claimed to be England's longest continual road ascent. It's not that steep (ave gradient 3%) but climbs 968 feet (295 m) in about 5.5 miles (8.9 km). It's a long power climb to get your teeth into with great views at the top.

Known to have an icecream van on weekends!

Be prepared for narrow roads and meeting traffic. Lots of ups and downs, but worthwhile route. Great to get to the base of Cragg Vale.

Great place to stop and rest with canal side refreshments.

Live a few miles from this and it's a nice climb. Just put your head down and keep going, I think it rises about 700feet and average 5-7 incline. Just breaking it up helps psychologically if you're not familiar Once at the top, there's a great view of the Dale and into Manchester and further. You have the choice of two main downhills 1. Down Crag Vale (England's longest climb at 5miles) or down into Ripponden and you end up near Sowerby Bridge You can switch back and head for the underpass of the M62 just at its highest point at 1200ft and over the top and back into Denshaw and Oldham/Rochdale

Unspoiled Lancashire village with Convenience store

This is a very satisfying climb taking you to the highest road around for miles. Once you reach the top, you have a choice of two exquisite descents: one down Cragg Vale (8kms of down), one down to Ripponden with lovely views of Baitings Reservoir and dam.

Cote de Ripponden Bank starts on Elland Road (leading south east out of Ripponden) and follows Ripponden New Bank round the hairpin and up to The Fleece Inn. Its starts out steep and at 1.2km long be careful not to go too hard on that first section. The climb was used on the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014.

Blackstone Edge is a climb up from Littleborough with the Blackstone Reservoir at the top. It is 2.5 miles long with an average gradient of 6% and max of 10%. Its an A road but its popularity with cyclists means there is even a dedicated cycle path.

Hollingworth Lake was developed as a water source for the Rochdale Canal but now provides a beautiful backdrop to a range of watersports and a visitors centre (with cafe).

This section of the Pennine Cycleway between Sowerby Bridge and Mytholmroyd has lovely views off to the north, north east and east. The country lane is a welcome difference to the hustle & bustle of the main valley road down below.

Sublime in dry weather. Feather those brakes in the wet.

Amazing views up here and this pass is far less busy than many of the others. Highly recommend this road in either direction!
