Easy hike around Ladybower Reservoir

Derwent Dam, is a stunning neo-Gothic construction that far transcends function alone. Built between 1902 and 1916, it is 340 m in length and 35 m high. The dam is famously linked to WWII history; RAF’s 617 Squadron, the “Dambusters”, trained here using “bouncing bombs”.

Derwent Reservoir is the middle of three linear reservoirs running north to south in the Peak District that supplies nearly all of the water for Derbyshire. Derwent Dam itself is a stone built dam that was built between 1902 and 1916. The dam and its twin stone towers are noted for being the aiming points for the RAF’s iconic 617 ‘Dambuster’ squadron when they practiced their low level flights during WW2 before they set off to bomb the German dams in the Ruhr Valley using Barnes Wallace revolutionary bouncing bombs. It is a beautiful area, and the dam is a very impressive feature that is 114 feet (35 m) high and 1,110 feet (340 m) in length. The base of the dam is a whopping 178 feet (54 m) thick.

This gravel trail takes you along the breathtaking shoreline of Ladybower Reservoir. It’s super leisurely and winds through utterly idyllic countryside. There are so many routing options from this trail, depending what type of adventure you’re on.

Fantastic snack stop. Coffee, cake, savoury treats. Simple and inexpensive.

Just one of the loveliest climbs around. It's not super long, it's never super steep, but it's just challenging enough to not be boring and has some incredible views. One that I work into routes wherever I can. Great fun on the way down too.

Ladybower is a large reservoir in the Upper Derwent Valley surrounded by rugged moorland, rolling farmland and majestic woodland. Above, beside and along the reservoir, breathtaking views await. The reservoir was built between 1935 and 1943. It was officially opened by King George VI in September 1945.

A nice country pub with a good-sized beer garden. Very welcoming to families and walkers. Open every day, serves food and drinks.

Damflask Reservoir is a wonderful place for relaxation and recreation. An easygoing path encircles the body of water, which is suitable for all abilities. An easy and fulfilling hike for those with little ones. An easily accessible place that is idyllic can, of course, get very busy at peak times and/or sunny days. Choose your time to explore wisely if you want some tranquillity.

Ideal starting point for various walks. You have to be early to park your car there. You can buy drinks and food without using the toilet.

This is a very nice and easy cycling loop with a view of the various dams and the beautiful nature around. The part between the parking lot at Fairhilmes and Snake road is less pleasant due to car traffic, but certainly still manageable.
