Great view of the castle

A beautiful view of the Irish Fujijama. Near the hotel on the road there are a few archaic round stone posts which, together with the water, provide a beautiful foreground.

This picture is the back of the cross, I found that out later... but still a nice place to find peace.

Marked with a celtic cross is the birthplace of St Colmcille. It was put in place in 1911. Next to the cross is Leac na Cumha or the Stone of Sorrow, which is recognisable from the small cup marks indented in it. It is said that St Colmcille was born on this stone.

On the hill overlooking Akibbon sits the remains of a 10th century abbey and a 16th century church. It is a quiet and peaceful place, perfect for a period of reflection. The graveyard is the resting place of the O'Donnell Clan.

Strand Park is right on the water's edge and a very short walk from a carpark to the east. There are picnic benches at the other end so it makes a great place to start and finish a hike.
