The Hornberg basin is the upper part of the storage power plant in the Black Forest. When there is enough (cheap) electricity, water is pumped from the Wehra reservoir below into the artificial basin on the Hornberg and, if necessary, converted back into electricity in the opposite direction. The basin is impressive with the tower in the middle and the steep sloping walls. Originally, a second, larger basin was planned, slightly higher and further east, but this was not realized. From the edge of the basin you also have a good view to the north.

A little-used treat, uphill and downhill, through a beautiful landscape. On the descent there is also a wonderful view, sometimes distant views, depending on the weather and air conditions. Road conditions mostly good (06/2024); be careful on bends where visibility is poor - there may also be sand or stones on the road.
