Parish Church of St. Vitus The history of the Church of St. Vitus begins around 1315 with the construction of the building. The first documented mention as the benefice of St. Veith dates back to 1326. During the Thirty Years' War, the parish church of St. Vitus and the associated rectory fell into disrepair. Reconstruction only began between 1661 and 1665. In 1891, the existing bell house was raised under the then parish priest Dengler and the church portal was given its current neo-Romanesque appearance. In 1937 and 1938, the plans to expand the church that had been in the works since 1884 were implemented. For this purpose, the old church choir was demolished and a square building was added to the remaining choir arch, which rises up into a dome painted in 1954. Extensive renovations and changes were carried out under the leadership of parish priest Josef Bock in 1963/65. In addition to renovation work on the masonry and roof, the high altar and the choir were redesigned. The altar figures created by Bornschlegel (crucifix, Mary, John, St. Vitus and St. George) were moved to the right side of the choir. They were replaced at the altar by the crucifix by Brückl, which had previously hung under the choir arch, a Madonna from the branch church in Pottenstetten, and figures of Peter and Paul from the Kreuzberg Church in Burglengenfeld. The altar itself was widened with gilded acanthus leaf ornaments by the Helmer and Pledl workshop from Regensburg. The two side altars, around 1750, from the branch church in Pottenstetten now found their new home here. Two small, newly acquired Rococo altars with Saints Francis and Anthony, now on the gallery, flanked the choir arch in the old church. A gallery for a new organ was built on the left side of the choir. This organ was installed in 1965 by the Nenninger company from Munich and inaugurated in 1966. On the initiative of Rev. Willibald Baumgartner, the church painter Georg Hiltl from Regensburg carried out an extensive restoration of the ceiling paintings in 1985, with particular emphasis on restoring the original baroque version. From the 2020s onwards, serious damage to the substance of the church building became apparent, which is why the church bells were no longer allowed to ring and the nave had to be temporarily closed due to serious defects.
