Tradition meets modernity – The Schulauer Fährhaus with its world-famous ship welcoming station, Willkomm Höft. In the completely renovated rooms of the Schulauer Fährhaus, located just outside Hamburg, head chef Franz Jost brings a breath of fresh air to the restaurant from his open show kitchen. The fine dining restaurant offers a choice of two exclusive menus, each exquisitely coordinated. With a stunning view of the Elbe River and passing ships, you can also choose from the extensive à la carte menu. The pastry chefs bake fresh, homemade cakes and pastries daily. Since 1952, the welcoming captains have been greeting the large ships on the Elbe from 10:00 a.m. until sunset, providing guests with a wealth of information about the vessel that has just been welcomed or bid farewell. Welcoming ships: A 65-year-old tradition that continues to this day and is celebrated anew every day. In June 1952, one of the daily arriving ships was greeted and bid farewell with its national anthem for the first time. From the outside, the act may not seem particularly spectacular. But it's worth mentioning that over 150 different national anthems have been played, along with a corresponding welcoming text in the respective national language.
