The town of Lychen was founded as early as 1248. Lychen has a Baroque town hall on the market square, originally built on an older town hall site. Throughout its history, it has experienced several fires: in 1633, a fire caused great devastation, and in 1732, the town hall burned down again to its foundations. In 1748, it was rebuilt as a two-story, Baroque plastered building with a tower and mansard roof. In 1817, the town hall received a clock. In 1945, it partially burned down again. The final reconstruction took place in 1956/57, but without the tower and clock for cost reasons. In front of the town hall stands an oversized thumbtack, invented by Johann Kirsten in Lychen in 1903. The town hall now serves as the seat of the Lychen city administration and is centrally located on the market square and in the town center.

This bike tour was beautiful. We often rode very close to the water. The paths were almost always good to very good (exceptions: a) the stretch from Fürstenberg along the former Ravensbrück concentration camp and b) parts of the stretch from Kleinmutz to Kraatz with lots of potholes). The landscape is very varied and simply wonderfully relaxing.

The so-called brewery (location) is a building from the late 14th century with a simple, well-structured blind gable. As with the monastery church, red brick was used as the building material. From the Lychen side: The beautiful town hall building from the 17th century was rebuilt after the effects of the war and is the central building in Lychen town centre, surrounded by a double row of linden trees. Here you will find everything that belongs to a real town hall, including a registry office and residents' registration office, lost property office and public order office, treasury and building authority. On Wednesday mornings there is a small market south of the town hall. In summer there are a number of events such as flea markets or a "communal breakfast" at the market.
