Nice little harbor

The bridge of the L 126, which crosses the Eider between Hamdorf and Breiholz, has a very beautiful view of the Eider on the western side, especially in the evening when the light river valley appears flooded with sunlight.

The Eider River marks the border between the districts of Dithmarschen and Rendsburg-Eckernförde. The pumping station is located at the idyllic bend of the river. The red brick building is designed to pump biological wastewater from the Eider.

In 1435, a chapel dedicated to Saint George (Low German: St. Jürgen) was built in Heide. When Heide was conquered by royal Danish and ducal troops during the Last Feud in 1559, the church burned down completely. Shortly afterwards, a new church was built on the old foundations, which was consecrated in 1560. This church has essentially survived to this day, although it has undergone some changes.

With almost 47,000 square meters of undeveloped space, it is the largest market place in Germany. As early as the 16th century, traders came together there every Saturday for a weekly market.
