🚴‍♀️ Saar Cycle Route – From Merzig to Saarlouis with a River View This section of the Saar Cycle Route is one of the most beautiful in Saarland: On a well-developed, mostly paved path, you cycle directly along the river – past locks, small harbors, meadows, and shady rows of trees. The route is flat, pleasantly quiet, and ideal for leisurely cyclists and touring cyclists. 🌅 Tip: Early in the morning, a fine mist often lies over the Saar, while in the late afternoon, the sun bathes everything in warm light – ideal for atmospheric breaks with a view of the water.

⛰️ View of the Kreuzberg Chapel in Merzig – a panorama steeped in history From many spots around Merzig, you can enjoy an impressive view of the Kreuzberg Chapel, which towers high above the city. Built in the 17th century, it has been an important pilgrimage site and popular hiking destination ever since. The view is particularly atmospheric at sunrise or sunset, when the light gently surrounds the chapel. 📸 Tip: If you're looking for the best view, take the Kreuzberg Trail – there you'll not only enjoy the panorama, but also a sense of spiritual tranquility above the rooftops of Merzig.

Three-aisled basilica with a transept and a richly structured eastern section, built around 1200 as a monastery church. It features a Gothic cross vault from the 16th century. Numerous Baroque works of art, including a figural ensemble by Wolfgang Stupeler (around 1700), a Pietà (17th century), a forked crucifix (14th century), and paintings in the style of the Nazarene School (1889, by Heinrich Klein of Merzig, based on designs by Eduard von Steinle).
