Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) is a spa town with approximately 49,000 inhabitants; the surrounding metropolitan area has a population of around 140,000. Since 2021, the town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most important spa towns in Europe. Carlsbad has 14 springs. The most famous and powerful spring is located in the Sprudel Colonnade. It is 72 degrees Celsius, shoots up to 14 meters high, and has a flow rate of 2,000 liters per minute. The Grand Hotel Pupp, founded in 1770 and situated on the riverbank, is a well-known landmark. 130 kilometers of hiking trails wind through the three mountain ranges surrounding the town. Above the town stands the Diana observation tower, accessible by funicular railway. It is 35 meters high and was built in 1914. Another well-known specialty is the Karlovy Vary wafer.

Possibility to stop for a short rest

This section is an unnecessary roller coaster ride, better shortened by taking the white road. Towards the northeast, the climb is quite steep.
