Mašun (1025 m above sea level) is a hamlet (and road pass) on the northwestern part of the Snežnik mountain plateau. It is surrounded by vast forests and represents the junction of road connections between the municipalities of Cerknica, Ilirska Bistrica, Pivka and Loška dolina. There is a 1,700-meter-long forest learning trail nearby, and the Ciglarjeva pot, as the Slovenian part of the European footpath E-6 is called, runs along it. The area of ​​Mašun is protected by the state as a landscape park.

Surrounded by nowhere, at 1000m, excellent for hospitality, food and relaxation.

Small settlement, winter sports resort and starting point for hikes to the Snežnik (Carniolan Snow Mountain). There is a paved road up from Ilirska Bistrica.

Friendly mountain hut with tasty traditional food– I think lodging here is possible, but we didn’t verify.

Accessible by a dirt road that gradually becomes steeper but can be reached by pedaling a few meters from the summit.
