It is recommended to hike the trail clockwise. This way, you can enjoy some panoramic views in the direction you are walking on the descent.

The Winnipesaukee River Trail is a nearly 5-mile scenic path connecting the towns of Franklin and Tilton. It follows an old rail corridor along the river and passes historic landmarks like the Sulphite “upside-down” covered bridge and the remains of 19th-century mills. It's a fantastic trail that combines beautiful river views and stretches of trees filled with songbirds, and if you're lucky, you may even spot a bald eagle flying overhead.

This is a great trailhead that fills up very quickly during the high season. From here you can hike Mount Major via trails of varying difficulty levels, and the trail system extends all the way to Gilford over the mountains should you choose to go farther. There are portable restrooms at the trailhead.

From this spot just below Locke's Hill summit on the Quarry Trail, you get great views through the trees of Lake Winnipesaukee. This is a great place to catch your breath and snap a few photos before continuing on your hike.

Lake Winnisquam (Winni) Scenic Trail is a paved rail trail that runs along the banks of the lake. It is completely flat and gives you great views of the lake.

North Straightback Mountain is a popular peak in the Belknap Mountains. It gives great views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Winnipesaukee.

At the end of the trail that bears the same name, Round Pond is a beautiful lake with Mount Mack and Mount Klem as a backdrop. The lake is only accessible by the trail, so it is normally a quiet and peaceful setting, so it is a great place for a break during a run.

Great views from the peak of Whiteface Mountain. The trail on the way up to the top is well maintained and well signed.
