The bald cypress is truly impressive. It is primarily found in flooded areas but can also survive severe droughts. Its extremely slow growth and very advanced age characterize it, as does its so-called "breathing knee," which grows upwards like a root against gravity, resembling a termite mound in its shape.

This little inlet is the bustling center of on-the-water recreation in Virginia Beach, including fishing piers and charters, jet skiing, parasailing, and oceanfront restaurants.

The pier is a great place for a break while riding the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. You need to get a day ticket to get access to all of the pier, but even without a ticket you still get a great view of the coastline.

The area has been protected since 1938 and is home to a wide variety of birds and other animals. It is a beautiful place to visit, especially if you cycle along its paths.

The 3 mile boardwalk was great and kept very clean. I ran on it every morning around 5am while I was on vacation waiting for the sun to come up. I was able to see dolphins every day on my morning walk. There are many places to rent bikes in Surrey and ride the cycle path along the promenade.

I love this path. It's easy, beautiful and great to be in nature! There is a nice little sandy area where you can swim or pull up your boat.

Gorgeous and beautiful statue! Definitely bigger than expected, and live music was playing nearby when we were right next to the statue! Definitely worth the walk if you’re on the boardwalk or nearby.

There are wonderful ways to enjoy nature. The building for the main natural area was closed when we arrived, so we were only able to check out the park. The park was fine. No public toilets and hardly anyone there.
