Lunch Rock is actually the official name of the viewpoint on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. The rocky outcrop is situated above the Haw Creek Valley overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are a couple different directions from which you can approach the Lunch Rock area, but it still isn't the busiest spot on the trail in the area.

The name "Pot Cove Gap" comes from the idea that old miners and rail workers that died on the job used to have their water/lunch pail hung from a rope or tree branch in their memory. One can find the remains of an old lunch pot hanging from a tree here.

There are some pretty sweet views from Patton Mountain Road. This is one of those steep mountain roads that not a lot of cars drive on, but it's perfect for a hilly bike ride.

The Blue Ridge Parkway curves through the mountains and keeps below the Mountains-to-Sea Trail through this section. This part of the parkway travels below the 5,230-foot summit of Lane Pinnacle and looks out towards Craggy Knob in the distance.

At 5,721 feet, Mount Pisgah is one of the most distinguishable summits that can be seen from the city of Asheville. The tall tower at the top marks the highpoint on the mountain, and an observation area offers excellent views of Asheville and the surrounding mountains.

Flat Spring Knob offers some decent views into Mount Mitchell State Park. Big Butt Trail has lots of trees without a lot of views along the trail, but the views from the tops of Flat Spring Knob and Little Butt make up for being trapped in the trees the rest of the hike.
