At almost 10,800 feet and near the rim of the plateau, Horseshoe Lake is a unique site to visit.

The aptly named Spectacle Lake makes a great starting point and/or destination for any ride, and its cool water might beckon to hot, tired feet at any point along the way.

An unmatched view opens up from this perfect viewpoint atop the Aquarius Plateau toward the Death Hollows to the south and several peaks including The Baldys and Boulder Mountain from the southeast to the northeast.

Rugged, remote, and beautiful, South Draw Road might be more popular for Jeepers than riders, but if you're willing to negotiate the road, you'll be surrounded by dramatic geology and ecology.

You have options from this point, but meeting the paved and popular Capital Reef Scenic Drive here also puts you very close to Cassity Arch (pictured), Egyptian Temple, and Golden Throne Trail.

Named after the son of Zeus whose punishment for unspeakable acts was to stand in a pool of water that disappeared into the ground every time he stooped to drink it, and underneath fruit trees whose branches swung out of reach each time he reached for nourishment, this area's name should remind you to be well prepared for the harsh desert environment. In this case, its sheer beauty is indeed a massive reward for the preparation and effort.

Though not the largest, Green Lake is one of several beautiful lakes elevated upon the Aquarius Plateau. And it is one of the most approachable from the trail on this loop.

A beautiful pasture opens up here, though wind and sun will increase for riders in this section as well.
