Due to its location at the confluence of the Rainbow and Withlacoochee Rivers, Dunnellon is an outdoor lovers dream. The crystal clear waters draw in anglers and paddlers from all over the world, but the town's surrounding area is also great for hiking, biking, bird watching, and horse riding.

Rainbow Springs is a natural wonder, producing 600,000,000 gallons of water each day. The swimming area seems otherworldly with its sparkling blue water, and the Rainbow River that is formed by the springs, is a haven for a vast array of wildlife. The park offers visitors the chance to go swimming, paddling, hiking, cycling, camping and much more. There's also a Visitor's Center with plenty of information for those who want to learn more about the history, geology, and biology of the area.

Nice little 2 and half mile paved trail with a bridge over the Withlacoochee River. Much of this area is part of the Cross Florida Greenway so you could conceivably link up sections and nearly ride from coast to coast across central Florida.

Part of the Cross Florida Greenway, the Ross Prairie Tract has miles of paved and unpaved trails. Additionally the park offers camping, picnic areas, and public restrooms and drinking water.

This 4,500-acre park provides protection for a number of native species on the gently rolling sandhills and prairies. One of the stated goals of Florida Forever, who purchased the land, is to oversee the return of the land to a more natural and balanced state. Visitors can enjoy hiking, bird watching, and horse riding on the 11+ miles of trails.

This park preserves and protects the home of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who is best known for her Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Yearling. Visitors can tour the property as well as access Orange Lake, which the park backs on to.

Heagy-Burry Park sits on the banks of Orange Lake in Marion County, Florida. It's got a small boat ramp, picnic area, and restrooms. There are also a couple of restaurants next to it if you arrive hungry.

Lake Lillian sits in the center of the Lake Lillian Neighborhood Historic Area, where 44 buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. There are a number of picnic areas, a playground, and a path that encircles the lake.
