This is a long-distance multi-use trail running for 113 miles all the way from Deadwood to Edgemont. This section between Argyle and Minnekahta has gentle rolling hills and beautiful scenery of meadows, forest, and ponds along the way.

Just 1.5 miles down the Wind Cave Canyon Trail is the junction for the East Bison Flats Trail. After a short but steep climb, you reach more gentle, rolling hills through the open prairie. You are treated to sweeping views over the prairie, to Buffalo Gap, and the Black Hills. Like everywhere else in the park, you have ample opportunities to see some of the iconic animals that live here, like bison, elk, mule deer, pronghorns, and an abundance of prairie dogs. Bison roam the open prairie and are some of the main attractions of the park. Use caution around these majestic animals; their behavior can be unpredictable, and their massive size and speed make them dangerous. Please observe these animals from a safe distance.

This is an easier trail in Wind Cave National Park. Run over rolling hills and towards the limestone cliffs of the canyon. Keep your eyes peeled for the abundant wildlife in the area!

Cold Brook Canyon is comprised of rocky, loose cliffs among sparse ponderosa forest that turns into open prairie. The trail in the canyon crosses a few prairie dog towns, which are great places to see both prairie dogs, prairie falcons, and other raptors. You also have a good chance of seeing bison in this area too. Remember to keep your distance from these amazing animals. Although they look slow and hulking, they are actually quite fast and can be dangerous.

The Prairie Vista Nature Trail is an easy 1 mile loop that begins just past Wind Cave's Natural Entrance and Visitor Center. You can also access this trail from a nice picnic area about 0.15 of a mile further up the road. This is one of the few trails where pets are allowed, but they must be leashed. The Nature Trail has several interpretive signage with information about the park, the ecology, and history of the area. This section of trail is the far side of the leisurely loop that affords sweeping views of the vast prairie and plenty of opportunities to see wildlife.
