Catawba Falls is a series of waterfalls along the headwaters of the Catawba River. The river flows over two major drops: Upper Catawba Falls, a free-fall drop, and the larger Catawba Falls cascading downstream. Though part of Pisgah National Forest, public access to the falls was restricted for years until the Foothills Conservancy purchased land in 2005 and 2007, with the creation of a trailhead. In 2010, the land was transferred to the U.S. Forest Service, officially opening the falls to visitors.

The name "Pot Cove Gap" comes from the idea that old miners and rail workers that died on the job used to have their water/lunch pail hung from a rope or tree branch in their memory. One can find the remains of an old lunch pot hanging from a tree here.

Buck Creek Gap offers an excellent overlook at a parking area just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The viewing area spans views of Pisgah National Forest and the forested trails of the Mountains-to-Seas Trail. There is also a forest trail accessing the MST leaving from here.

Located at Milepost 350.3 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Green Knob Overlook is one of the many nearby summits you can see from the overlook. This is one of the most notable views on the section of the parkway close to Mount Mitchell. The expansive viewpoint is actually in the Hollywood movie Last of the Mohicans.

Hefner Gap Overlook is situated at Milepost 325.9 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The overlook offers a head-on view of Linville Mountain and some other lower-lying peaks. There is also a tiny apple orchard below the overlook, and you can read about the history of farming in the area on some informational signs nearby.
