Bridge generally opens on every hour and half hour during the summer. More frequently on weekends, and weather dependent (depends on boat traffic)

Beautiful stop or just to pass by.

This is an impressive swing bridge that connects Southport Island to Boothbay Harbor. Maine has very few movable bridges and most of them are very small. This swing bridge however is among the largest in the state.

Damariscotta Lake State Park is located on the North side of the lake, just outside of Jefferson. The park is a great place to head in the summer for swimming, picnicking, grilling, and paddling. Cycling here is a great idea in the summer because parking is limited and fills up quickly.

The Zak Preserve is the largest within the Boothbay Region Land Trust at 208 acres. There's a nice mix of forested and meadow trails and and is a valuable section of the River~Link System, which aims to provide a natural corridor along the Sheepscot and Damariscotta rivers.

The Sheepscot River runs a short 66 miles from Freedom, Maine to the sea. It meanders through a number of small lakes and ponds before joining with the Kennebec River to an estuary. It is this estuary that is its defining characteristic, as it is made up of dozens of islands, both big and small, which makes it a popular destination for paddlers.

I camped by the lake on a bike tour a few years ago. It was a lovely, quiet and clean spot, with a privy and picnic table. I took a dip in the pond, and charged my phone at the pavilion. Highly recommend!
