There is a lot of traffic on the M6, so there is an opportunity to leave the M6 road here and enjoy a few miles of quiet travel at the same time

The Tara Gorge is beautiful and the drive on the mostly very quiet road is a dream. A day ticket must be purchased at the foot of the ascent (5 euros)

Nearly zero traffic in the morning. Excellent tarmac all the way up and down the other side too. The slope is moderate and very even, making it pleasant to drive.
