A slightly different hike. The sandy ground in particular made this walk much more difficult than expected. But the view from the dune makes up for the effort.

Mount San Antonio, also known as Old Baldy or Mount Baldy, is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains at 10,069 feet (3,069 m) and the highest point in Los Angeles County, California. Castle Rock is a boulder pile that makes a popular destination for its scenic views that look out upon Big Bear Lake and the surrounding mountains.

The trail features fascinating volcanic rock formations in the surrounding walls. These rocks are marked by interesting wind-blown pockets and holes. For those interested in climbing, rings have been installed in the wall for this purpose. However, please be aware that climbing is physically demanding and should only be attempted if you are in good physical condition..

Mt. Baldy is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains and gets its nickname from the absence of trees near its summit. It is a grind to get here on your bike but you will be rewarded with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountain tops. A very popular and special place.
