Withlacoochee State Trail, stretching 47 miles, is one of the longest paved trails in Florida and is popular among hikers, runners, and bikers. For those looking to mix in some trail running, a nice unpaved trail runs parallel to the main path.

The Withlacoochee State Trail runs for nearly 50 miles through Hernando, Citrus, and Pasco counties. Making it one of the longest paved trails in Florida. In addition to the main section of converted rail-trails, there are also sections that are paralleled by unpaved trails for equestrian and gravel/mountain bike riders.

This is a great section of the Withlacoochee State Trail that passes through Crooter Pond Park. The trail passes along the banks of Lake Tsala Apopka and through the green space around the park.

Fort Cooper State Park, in Inverness, spans 700 acres and offers a glimpse into history with its Second Seminole War significance. Enjoy serenity amidst beautiful natural landscapes, including Lake Holathlikaha.

Take note, the westside is only open on Mondays while the Farmers Market on the east side is open Monday-Friday. If you're just riding through it's still worth a stop as there are food and drink vendors as well.

The Van Fleet State Trail is a beautiful, remote 29.2 mile rail trail. It passes through a variety of landscapes, including swampland, forest and cattle ranches. The path is incredibly straight, with only 1 curve in the path's almost 30 miles.

Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve covers over 110,000 acres across four counties. It also borders the Withlacoochee State Forest and Colt Creek State Park, to make a very large continuous protected area. Within this massive protected area you'll find miles of trails and back roads to explore. There are multiple campgrounds, rivers, and lakes to explore. In short it's an outdoorsperson's dream.

At over 150,000 acres the Withlacoochee State Forest covers a vast array of terrain. There are miles and miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. You'll find numerous ghost towns and historic sites. There are a number of campgrounds and picnic areas as well. In fact, there is so much to see and do that the World Wildlife Fund named it one of the "10 Coolest Places You've Never Been in North America".
