Raven Rock Overlook gives you a great view forested valleys and distant mountains. It is a popular photo spot at sunrise and sunset.

From an elevation of 3,795 ft, Thunder Hill Overlook gives you a 180° panorama over the Piedmont Mountains.

Moses Cone Overlook used to be home to one of the great viewpoints along the Blue Ridge Highway. Now, the view is obstructed by the overgrown trees and shrubs.

The Boone Greenway is a paved commuter trail that follows a branch of the New River for a handful of miles. There are a bunch of other trails that connect to this path, allowing you to start your walk in different spots and make a number of different loops.

At Milepost 302.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, you can find the Rough Ridge Overlook. There is a trail that offers even better views from a better vantage point, but there are a few window views through the trees from the parking area. The section of the parkway bordering Grandfather Mountain State Park is especially beautiful in the fall when the colors on the trees are changing.
