This is a nice, easily accessible escape into nature. Gibbs Lake Park has over 700 acres of forest and a 90-acre lake perfect for outdoor fun. With seven miles of trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding, there’s plenty to explore. The lake is stocked with trout, making it a popular fishing spot, and there’s a hand-launch area for kayaks or canoes. If you want to swim, be sure to check local water conditions.

This state park is lovely, with multiple trails leading through a forest combination of cedar fir and alder to Anderson Lake. There are eight miles of hiking trails, seven miles of biking trails and five miles of equestrian trails, leaving plenty of options for a great run throughout the grounds. The lake spans 70 acres and has plenty of birds and other wildlife that inhabit the area. There are several picnic tables along the lakeshore, often occupied by large groups who enjoy birding and nature tours provided by the parks department.

This park in the middle of the city offers a unique experience with a valuable habitat of over 150 species of birds who pass through here. Several walking and bicycle trails are located in the southern portion of the park, as there is currently no route looping around the lagoon. Irely Lake Trail is a beautiful route that takes you through the Olympic rainforest. It looks prehistoric with all the giant ferns and huge trees along the creek before ending up at Irely Lake. If you are looking for an extended run, this trail connects to Big Creek Trail if you are feeling ambitious and want to go for another 5 miles to Three Lakes.

The Salmon and Snow Creek Estuary plays a vital role in safeguarding marine life habitats. Here, wildlife thrives and it's a great place to make a stop. You can find summer chum and salmon, making it an ideal sanctuary for Puget Sound Chinook, coho, sturgeon, steelhead, and cutthroat trout. This estuary fosters a flourishing ecosystem for shellfish, shorebirds, waterfowl, eagles, and elk.
