You can stay in the Community centre for $10 a night, it has kitchen facilities and a WC, it has camp beds set up and fans for when its hot and a heater for when its cold. You pay and collect the key from the Petrol station which has food and drink available.

The Purgatory Chasm is decorated with plant life due to the abundance of water in the area. This flora can be found on the forest floor and in some of the cracks of the rock walls and depressions. This spot is also known for having tight canyon walls on either side of the trail in places. While there used to be a western trail looping back to the parking area from here, recently flooding and fallen trees have covered the area, making an out-and-back route more suitable.

The Grapevine Campground is a free tent camping campground with vault toilets and nearby treatable water. If trying to gain access to the trail leading to Melanie Hot Springs, you have the option to either wade across the river under the bridge or to walk the pavement across the bridge.

With a parking area, bathrooms, picnic tables, fire rings, and access to popular wilderness trails and multi use trails like the Continental Divide Trail, the Rocky Canyon Campground in New Mexico is an excellent spot for day use, camping, and parking. Campsites are first-come, first-serve and do require a fee.

Gila Hot Springs is a small town along the Continental Divide and Grand Enchantment Trail. You can resupply at the small store of Doc Campell's Post – very hiker friendly – or send a package there. There is also WiFi, showers and a water spigot next to it. If you like to stay overnight, you will find a developed campground next to the river. And there are of course the hot springs!

In a little park before the gateway arch across 'The Big Ditch' bridge into downtown Silver City is a wooden original pioneer cabin and a memorial plaque to honor the author and daughter of former slaves Anita Scott Coleman, next to the modern visitor center.

Silver City's former Main Street was washed away but the floods caused by mining erosion in the hills around the city in the 1880s, cutting an over 30 feet deep ditch several blocks through the middle of downtown, today a city park 50 feet below the city level.
