This is great, maybe one of the best paved multi use trails I’ve been on. I rode a bike and really enjoyed all the corners and short climbs as the path twisted along Lake Arthur. Road bike friendly, as many trees as there were I was suprised the asphalt wasn’t pushed up by roots at all and the surface was fast. Numerous pavilions, picnic tables, benches, bathrooms and green lawns for breaks.

North Park is a large 3,075 acre park in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It is the largest park within the county’s 12,000-acre network of nine parks. Established in 1925, North Park aims to preserve natural resources for future generations and features a range of facilities including an archery range, ballfields, basketball courts, boating, a cafe, and a nature center. In the winter you can enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and in the warmer months, fishing, pickleball, and hiking, biking, and jogging numerous trails.

The Butler-Freeport Community Trail spans 20 miles, winding through a scenic wooded valley along Little Buffalo Creek to Buffalo Creek and then to the Allegheny River at Freeport. The trail is a mix of surfaces, mainly crushed limestone, and well-placed mile and .5 mile markers along the way. Restrooms are available along the route and are open seasonally, from May to October. As you ride the trail, you'll encounter charming scenery, including old stone foundations, remains of brick kilns, small dams, and delightful waterfalls.

Derailleur Bike Shop Café is just off the Butler-Freeport Community Trail; both bikers and hikers can enjoy a coffee or snack there. The menu ranges from ice cream sandwiches to tamales, so there is a treat for anyone. There is also a bike repair shop here. It's a great mom-and-pop shop to stop by and support in the community.

Alameda Park hiking and biking trails weave through a typical Pennsylvania forest, with deer, birds, and small critters to spot on a quiet day. Enjoy the shade from the trees while exploring here!

A year-round destination, and run by Butler County Parks and Recreation, historic Alameda Park spans over 400 acres and welcomes thousands of visitors annually. The park features a massive playground, 12 shelters, and over 11 miles of Single Track bike trails built to IMBA standards. For those who don't mind sharing the trails with mountain bikers, it's a fantastic multi-use area and one of the closest hiking spots to Butler.

Lake Arthur is in Moraine State Park and is home to warm water fish, frogs, newts, turtles, and water snakes. The Moraine State Park Bike Trail borders its northern shores, making for a nice waterfront ride.
