This Kinloch Bay, near Taupo is a little paradise on earth! In good weather, no need to go to the Caribbean. You will find, in addition to a small friendly community, unspoiled nature in Kinloch. It is the starting point for many trails that will allow you to discover splendid views of the lake and its surroundings.

What could be better than a detour along the bike path along the lake to say goodbye to Taupo? The snow-capped mountains you see to the south are the Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro volcanoes. Note that the Ngauruhoe served as a filming location for the film Lord of the Rings. This volcano represents Mordor in the film inspired by Tolkien's saga.

Coffee, food, reasonable place to park a car. Locals watch out for riders and there is CTV covereage in the area.

About 10km from the trail head or Kinloch, shelter and camp spot. There is a long drop toilet and non-potable water available from the lake.

This is a good place to park your car. There are security cameras and the locals take visitor security seriously, they bring in a lot of business. There is a great cafe for a post ride snack/meal.

3km uphill... if you have heavy bikes it is a push rather than a ride!
