1月 19, 2026, Santa Cruz Church

The area of Kudi Chin centers around the beautiful Santa Cruz Church. This quiet enclave, with its quiet, narrow alleys, clearly defines a historic Bangkok neighborhood. See my whole route from the flower market to here at: https://lens-wanderings.com/bangkok-flower-market/

Not really a floating market anymore, but you can find everything your heart (or appetite) desires.

Wat Kanlayanamit Woramahawihan, often referred to as Wat Kalayanamitr, is a major Buddhist temple on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in the Thonburi district of Bangkok. The temple was founded in 1825 by Chaophraya Nikonbodin, a wealthy Thai-Chinese merchant, and later dedicated to King Rama III. The name "Kalayanamitr" means "true friend" and reflects the close relationship between the founder and the king. A prominent feature of the temple is the massive Buddha statue Phra Buddha Trai Rattananayok, known as Luang Pho To or Sampokong. This impressive statue is approximately 16 meters tall and is considered one of the largest seated Buddha statues in Bangkok. It attracts both Thai and Chinese devotees who believe that venerating the statue brings prosperity, good luck, and safe travels. The temple's architecture combines Thai and Chinese stylistic elements. Chedis, pavilions, and statues in both styles can be found throughout the grounds, reflecting the cultural diversity and influence of the Chinese community in the region. Another notable feature is the large bronze bell in the temple's bell tower, considered the largest in Thailand. It is believed that ringing the bell after giving alms or praying brings good luck and the fulfillment of wishes.

The elevated bike paths are great fun. Though narrow and in some areas without any railings. So you better be comfortable riding in narrow conditions, specially when you have oncoming traffic.

Throughout the area are narrow elevated paths, about 1~2m of the ground, that zig zag through the green areas. When riding a bike and you choose these paths, you better feel comfortable in narrow areas, as you occassionally have oncoming traffic. Also these paths often turn 90 degrees, still narrow, and often without any railings. But still fun and amazing to ride. Highly recommend.

The Chao Phraya River is the lifeline of central Thailand and runs through Bangkok as one of the country's most important transport and trade centers. With a length of around 372 kilometers, it rises from the confluence of the Ping and Nan rivers in Nakhon Sawan and finally flows into the Gulf of Thailand. The river is not only economically important, but is also culturally and historically closely linked to the development of Bangkok. Along its banks are some of Bangkok's most famous sights, including the magnificent Grand Palace, the impressive Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and the modern IconSiam shopping center. A boat trip on the Chao Phraya is particularly attractive, be it on the public express boats, private longtail boats or luxurious dinner cruises. During the trip, you can enjoy a unique view of the mix of historic temples, modern high-rises and traditional stilt houses that characterize the cityscape along the river. For cyclists, the river is a good reference point for exploring different parts of the city and attractions. A trip to Bang Krachao, often referred to as the “green lung of Bangkok”, is particularly recommended. This peninsula on the western side of the river is a paradise for nature and cycling lovers. The famous Taling Chan river market and the Pak Khlong Talad flower market are also easily accessible via the Chao Phraya. Those who want to experience Bangkok's waterways can also explore the khlongs, the traditional canals. They offer a glimpse of old Bangkok before roads became the main means of transport.

Bang Krachao, often referred to as the “Green Lung of Bangkok”, is home to the Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market, an authentic weekend market that immerses you deeply in Thai culture. Although referred to as a “floating market”, most of the stalls are located on land along the canals, giving the market a unique charm. The market is particularly known for its variety of traditional Thai food. From freshly made noodle soups served straight from boats to exotic desserts, there is something to suit every palate. In addition to culinary delicacies, handmade products such as beeswax soaps, herbal balms and oils are also on offer. A visit to the market can be ideally combined with a bike tour through the lush landscape of Bang Krachao. Bikes can be rented on site for around 70 Thai Baht (approx. €1.80), allowing visitors to explore the surrounding villages and the natural beauty of the region.
