Alanya is a seaside resort on Turkey's central Mediterranean coast (also known as the Turkish Riviera). Its wide beaches, lined with hotels, include Cleopatra Beach, where this Egyptian queen is said to have bathed. Alanya Kalesi, a huge Seljuk-era fortress that is now an open-air museum, stands on a rocky cliff next to Ottoman villas with red-tiled roofs and the octagonal Kızıl Kule, a symbol of the city dating back to 1226.

The cable car is currently out of service (April 2024) after an accident that left one person dead and 10 injured. For reasons that are still unknown, a gondola collided with the sluggish mast.
