Dereköy is a Greek village located in the westernmost part of the island. Thanks to its strategic location and Pirgos Port, it has developed economically and socially more than other villages in the past. It was once the largest and most populous village of the island and even of Türkiye with 1950 households. The village, which is 14 km. away from the center, is built on the slopes of two opposite hills, Halakasi and Madrabodus Hills, and is divided into two by the road passing through the middle. One of the two settlements mentioned by the Ottoman navigator Piri Reis in the 16th century is Dereköy (the other is Kaleköy). There are two churches open for worship in the village. There are also two churches in the village built in the early 1800s. One is the Hagia Marina Church at the entrance of the village and the other is the Koimesis Tis Theotokos Church in the bazaar.

Once one of the most social places on the island, Zeytinliköy is now one of the most frequently visited villages with its relatively few shops. The number of summer and winter residents is around 50-60. As the name suggests, it is surrounded by many olive trees. The village, 3 km. from the center, is one of the four protected villages. Agios-Georgios Church, the oldest church of the island, is also in this village. Bartholomew I, the spiritual leader of 300 million Orthodox Christians around the world, was born in Zeytinli in 1940. Proclaimed Patriarch in 1991, Bartholomew visits his birthplace several times a year.

The Trojan Horse stands proudly towering on the harbor promenade of Canakkale. To be more precise, it is the original prop from the 2004 film adaptation of Troy by Wolfgang Petersen. The location was not chosen by chance, as it is believed that the legendary Battle of Troy took place here. An archaeological roundtrip lets you dive deeper into the history of Troy.

Çanakkale is located at the entrance of the Dardanelles, which connects the Aegean and Marmara Seas. It is listed as UNESCO World Heritage. The sites of the legendary war of Homer’s ILIAD, and the Dardanelles Campaign, the source of pride of the Turkish nation, are located on both sides of the straits. The straits are separating the European continent and the Asian continent (Dardanelles/Hellespont).

Lovely bike path running along the coastal side of the Troya National Park, connecting the Çanakkale agglomeration and the Troya ruins. It seems a bit abandoned but still perfectly usable.
