Good climb from kiln, leave some gas in the tank for the top

Cathedral is nice but the huge old trees are spectacular

A super cool small suspension bridge with great views down over the river and surrounding countryside. An idyllic location for a stop on the bike.

The Glen Quaich climb from Garrow is a brutally steep and remote ascent, averaging 11% with savage pitches topping 17%. The narrow, rough road winds sharply through open moorland, with loose gravel and tight bends demanding full concentration. There’s little chance to settle into a rhythm—the gradient kicks hard and keeps coming. Stay in your lowest gear, keep your weight forward, and grind it out one corner at a time. It’s a wild, punishing climb—but the solitude and raw Highland beauty make every pedal stroke worth it.

Loch Tay is the largest freshwater loch in Perth and Kinross and stretches 15 miles (24 km) through the stunning central Highlands of Scotland, plunging to depths of 508 feet. It is surrounded by dramatic mountains, lush woodlands, and quaint villages, and offers breathtaking scenery at every turn.

Great wee village/town packed full of good places to eat & drink and interesting independent shops.

There's a track from the loch to the free Cally Car Park set it the woods above Dunkeld.

A bouncy bridge, sans gates, that's part of the national cycle route. An interesting waypoint just because it's a bit different.

On a practical note, it's one of the few bridges over the river in this area so it's likely a waypoint. That said, it's worth a pause to look upstream and downstream and take the obligatory photo. If you're naughty, there's a jail built into the bridge underneath.

Quite a busy single-track road along the loch's southside. Plenty of scenic spots to take a break and a photo. Coffee and toilets at the loch visitor centre.

During the summer months, there are usually portable toilets situated in one of the parking areas close by.

The Compass Café is the perfect mid-ride lunch stop riding the NCN 77 from Pitlochry to Dundee

We took a guided tour followed by a tasting. It cost £19 and lasted an hour. It was really worth it.

The steepest section is at the very start of the climb. It has been recently resurfaced making the descent superb.

Taybank does excellent food outside

A waypoint with alas a lot of scaffolding. Plenty of nice places in Dunkeld for refreshments. There's a dirt path, muddy after rain, around the east side of the Cathedral property; there's no way through the Cathedral property bounds. Dunkeld Community Archive is nearby in The Cross.

There's an old prison built into the bridge base on the east side.
