Amazing views in a fascinating landscape. Felt a bit unreal.

The Bealach Maim climb from Otter Ferry is a steep and secluded ascent, averaging 8% with brutal ramps that touch 16%. The narrow, often rough road snakes up through thick woodland before opening into rugged moorland, offering fleeting sea views behind you. The surface can be patchy, with gravel and moss in shaded areas, so pick your lines carefully. You'll need to grind it out early—the steepest pitches come fast and feel relentless. It’s a hidden gem of a climb, rewarding effort with wild beauty and total tranquility.

The Oystercatcher is a great cosy pub. Good food with incredible views. It’s part of Ballimore Estate. There’s Ballimore Bothy which you can book easily online. There’s a great beach you can walk along which then becomes part of the spit. Be very mindful of this area and the tides, as high tide can come in pretty fast. Never be complacent as it will take you by surprise. There are a few mooring buoys for boats to moor. This happens more within the summer months. Also great area for cyclists as there are multiple routes to do here (road/gravel/mtb).

Large campsite with a small area for tents. There are 4 washing machines and 4 huge dryers where all the washed laundry dries quickly. Shops in town (Tesco and Co-op)

Unlisted possibly modern

Effortless, flat cycle ride from Lochgilphead to Crinan. If you want some inclines you could branch off about half way along the tow path and cycle over the hill to the beautiful wee village of Tayvallich. Nice hotel by the bay. Good food. Picnic benches.

A great stretch of road that continues for about 15 miles from Stracher to Otter Ferry. It runs consistently along loch Fyne and doesn't have any big hills so is a good choice if you want a more relaxed ride. The first half from Stracher is well paved with the second half being more worn and graveled so watch out for pot holes.

A great pub with a cosy and welcoming atmosphere, a great stop point especially if you've cycled all the way from Dunoon or Stracher. Unfortunately though the opening times can be inconvenient and changeable, it is usually closed for the morning and the middle of the afternoon. You'll need to book in advance if you want a meal.

The bothy at Kilbride Farm serves drives, light meals and ice-cream. So we shared a tub of Isle of Arran ice-cream before we set off

A quiet and peaceful loch next to an equally quiet road. You'll likely have the place to yourself so it's a good spot for a stop off and a break.
