Great path by Loch Muick down to a bothy.

A beautiful gravel road that's well-maintained and therefore suitable for almost any bike. At the end of it, you'll find Glas Allt Shiel, one of the Balmoral Royal Bothies. It's a lovely place to spend the night, but the lawns of the Royal Lodge on the waterfront are also a great place for a picnic.

Best place to start the hike. No Vans, Camper and no overnight staying

Lovely inn with restaurant and rooms. The rooms in the courtyard are modern and clean, and the shower was big enough for me to get a few days worth of off road /bikepacking mud off of me and my cycling gear. Good breakfast, fun and lively restaurant and bar. Need more whisky choice though!

Very nice little parking spot. Although a good number of the bays can turn into complete bog after a good bit of rain.

Loch brandy is worth the walk up hill

The two options of the paved road on one side of the valley, and gravel track on the other, makes for a great riding location. Tons of route options.

Risk of getting wet after this bridge if tide is high after rain - path almost submerged, but passable. Not for a road bike!

When you get to the loch it becomes a beach of stone so you’ll need to hike-a-bike to the boat shed. Once you reach there, it’s not suitable for a bike.

Car park charges apply - pay at machine; can use a card. The west side double track to the Lodge (and bothy) has a good gravel surface and is basically level. Lodge is a great area to pause, maybe have a swim, before continuing hiking/biking.

A stunning loop of the conveniently looped B955 road in Glen Clova. Great in both directions with the Glen Clova hotel at the far end.

The Glen Clova Hotel is a small friendly country hotel in a wonderful location. It's on the awesome road loop of Glen Clova and a good stop for some of the gravel tracks around here. If you're staying longer or using your bike to access the fells Loch Brandy and the peaks around it are walkable straight from the door to the north, Mayar, Driesh and Glen Doll are just up the road. You can stay here and use it as a base or just stop in for a drink, meal or snack.

The footbridge over the outflow which becomes the River Muick at the northeast end of Loch Muick. The loch is a wonderful place to ride, the trails around the loch are rough but the road and the parallel trails up from Ballater are great.

The Spittal of Glenmuick has a visitor centre, toilets and a cafe (only open at peak times). It's the head of the valley below Loch Muick which is an amazing mountain loch in the southern Cairngorms. There is a trail around the loch and numerous paths off into the mountains but none are suitable for road bikes. This is a beautiful place to ride too though and well worth the effort of the out and back road up from Ballater. The car park is at 418m and the road starts at around 200m so it’s a good climb and a fun descent.

Incredible spot to get a view of Loch Muick from

Watch the deer, rabbits, bats and oyster catchers opposite under the moonlight. Airlie monument on the hilltop to the south west, seen for miles. Next to River South Esk.
