After the city burned down in 1462 during an attack by Louis the Rich, the Duke of Bavaria-Landshut, the towers of the church were rebuilt on the Romanesque basement and a new choir was built. This church, built in the Gothic style, was also burned down when the Swedes occupied the city during the Thirty Years' War. In 1648, work began on rebuilding the church in the Baroque style according to the plans of an unknown master builder.
