Nice little cut through to avoid the main roads to and through Marlborough. It can get quite busy past the college entrance, so caution and slow speeds is advised.

no tips. exhausted with problems with e bike so going for Mountain bike again. I've spent twice the price of the bike new. and some problem still not solved.

This is a beautiful section of the Wessex Ridgeway just north of Marlborough. The full ridgeway route is 136 miles long and is part of the ancient trade route that once stretched across England.

Quite rough gravel surface. Not suitable for lightweight road bike or touring with heavy luggage.

Great food with good service. Handy seating inside and out with good views of the cycle rack for anyone who's nervous of leaving their precious machine.

Ogbourne St Andrew is a beautiful village located in Wiltshire. The village features a historic church, a great pub, Silks on the Downs, and a gorgeous river that flows straight through it. It's a stone's throw away from a number of great walks, including The Ridgeway, deemed Britain's oldest road!

Steep climb on lovely gravel following the Wessex Ridgeway up Manton Down. A beast if you're unlucky enough to be riding into a headwind!

Easily manageable on any bike (when dry). There's a few rougher patches, but on the whole it's no worse than many roads and a lot less stressful than the main road that runs alongside it.

This mixed use path, part of Sustrans NCN Route 482, follows the disused Chiseldon & Marlborough Railway. The path is almost entirely well-maintained gravel and mostly flat, with some sharp ups and downs at entry/exit points. When dry, it can be easily ridden on a road or city bike (some skills required), but if muddy and wet a Gravel bike or MTB is recommended. Traction is overall very good, but be careful on bends with loose gravel. On a nice, sunny day this is a great trail away from traffic which will put a smile on your face! Always be courteous to other path users, giving ample room to pedestrians and other cyclists.

Manton Park is a renowned racehorse centre with outstanding facilities and vast training grounds. The gallops here are exceptionally well cared for and in frequent use. With a public byway and plenty of footpaths nearby, you can easily see the gallops for yourself and, if you're passing at the right time, you'll see racehorses...well...galloping.

This dead straight road through the heart of the ancient Savernake Forest is an ace way out of Marlborough, although there's a stiff main road climb first to get to it. It's really rolling too, so you can get your speed up on the downhills to help you power up the other side!

Avebury is a very impressive Neolithic site. It's great that you can get up close and touch the stones. Plus, it's free to enter. Well worth locking your bikes and strolling around the full site if you're interested.

Avebury is an extraordinary place in the North Wiltshire & Wessex Downs AONB. One of many Neolithic sites in the area, this stone circle is large enough to encircle part of the village. Many of the stones have names and myths attached to them and there were 100 when it was first built between 4,000 and 5,000 years ago. In the vicinity lies West Kennet Long Barrow, Silbury Hill (a prehistoric fort) and numerous other standing stones and long barrows. Stonehenge lies to the south near Amesbury; a more famous but smaller circle in diameter. You can visit Avebury's stone circle for free and there are plenty of footpaths passing through which will take you to the other nearby remnants of prehistory.

A must see on King Alfred's Way - some would argue that this is a much more impressive site than Stonehenge (and I'd agree).
