9月 25, 2024, Wessex Ridgeway
This is a beautiful section of the Wessex Ridgeway just north of Marlborough. The full ridgeway route is 136 miles long and is part of the ancient trade route that once stretched across England.

4月 13, 2024, Brandy Bottom Colliery
An excellent section of bike path just off the Bath to Bristol. It is laid with tarmac and goes past the old colliery. Note that towards the end at the woods it can get quite muddy. This is especially so in Winter and especially if you take the fork on to the Dramway towards Westerleigh.

7月 6, 2023, Hinton Hill Climb
I prefer this as a descent even though it's dark through the woods. I nearly crashed into a rider in the middle of the road even with markings, so please don't think this is an empty road for climbing, it's busier than most of the other climbs around here. The surface is better than Sands Hill, Dodington and Cock lane which tend to be my preferred climbs into the Wolds.

5月 20, 2023, Brandy Bottom Colliery
Brandy Bottom Colliery is a former colliery in Pucklechurch, South Gloucestershire, England. It was a steam-powered colliery that operated from the early 19th century until the early 20th century. The colliery was located on the line of the Dramway, a horse-drawn railway that was used to transport coal from the Coalpit Heath area to Bristol. The earliest written record of Brandy Bottom Colliery dates from 1837, when a shaft was sunk at the site. The colliery was owned by a number of different companies over the years, including the East Bristol Collieries Company and the Avon Industrial Buildings Trust. The colliery closed in 1936 and has been derelict ever since. Brandy Bottom Colliery is a scheduled ancient monument and is a popular spot for historical walks and bike rides. The colliery is also home to a number of rare plants and animals, including the lesser horseshoe bat.

Gradient gradually increases through Hinton. The steeper section starts as you pass the Bull Inn (to your left as you climb), it's about 400m of narrow Lane, 10-12% gradient. Not too onerous but sufficient to get your attention. Sweeping views at the top towards the Welsh Hills (on a clear day).

6月 6, 2022, Biddestone Village Pond
Biddestone is such a lovely tiny Cotswolds village 😍 - also known as „Carsley“ in the British comedy-drama television program“Agatha Raisin“, which is based on M. C. Beaton's book series of the same name about a former PR agent who solves crime mysteries in the Cotswolds.

4月 23, 2022, Castle Combe Village
"Castle Combe is a village and civil parish within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Wiltshire, England. The village is around 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Chippenham. A castle once stood in the area, but was demolished centuries ago. [...] No new houses have been built in the historic area since about 1600. Castle Combe was named England's prettiest village in 1961. South of the upper village is the Castle Combe motor racing circuit. The village takes its name from the 12th-century castle which stood about 1⁄3 mile (500 m) to the north. Only the earthworks are still visible since the castle was abandoned in the late 1300s. The castle is believed to have been built by the first Baron, Reginald de Dunstanville, circa 1140; "Castell of Cumbe" stood on an ancient site used by the Britons." 4月 18, 2022, Castle Combe Circuit
Nice smooth tarmac on this 3 km circuit makes riding at Castle Combe a pleasure. The circuit is almost completely flat, which means that wind direction and strength play a big part in racing here. There are no super-technical features on the track, but a couple of chicanes can create bottlenecks. The Chippenham Wheelers club regularly run the 'Castle Combe Good Friday Easter Classic' criterium race.
