7月 6, 2024, Hambledon Hill Iron Age Hill Fort
The hill is now a National Nature Reserve (NNR) with common plants including milkwort, salad burnet, horseshoe vetch, squinancywort, pyramidal orchid and wild thyme. Rarer species include bastard toadflax, meadow saxifrage, early gentian and dwarf sedge. Butterflies include dingy skipper, grizzled skipper, chalkhill blue and Adonis blue. In August 2014, Hambledon Hill fort was acquired by the National Trust for £450,000. The money to buy the hill had come from a Natural England grant and a legacy gift left to benefit Dorset countryside. The hillfort is a Scheduled Monument, as is the adjacent Neolithic causewayed camp.

7月 6, 2024, Hambledon Hill Ramparts
Hambledon Hill is a prehistoric hill fort in Dorset, England, in the Blackmore Vale five miles northwest of Blandford Forum. The hill itself is a chalk outcrop, on the southwestern corner of Cranborne Chase, separated from the Dorset Downs by the River Stour. It is owned by the National Trust. Hambledon Hill is the first in a series of Iron Age earthworks,] which continues with Hod Hill, Spetisbury Rings, Buzbury Rings, Badbury Rings and Dudsbury Camp. The Iron Age port at Hengistbury Head forms a final Iron Age monument in this small chain of sites. The ramparts are a lot longer than you think, amazing fun getting around them all though.

10月 15, 2023, Win Green Summit
Win Green at 277 m is the highest point on Cranbourne Chase. The tree topped summit also has a Bronze Age hill barrow, topography stone and trig point. Lots of great running loops from here as well as easy parking close by.

From this vantage point you get a good idea of the scale of the three ramparts which formed the fortifications of the hill. The steep banks and ditches would have made it a formidable defensive fort.

10月 19, 2022, Win Green Summit
Win Green hill at 277m is the highest point on Cranborne Chase. The trig point affords panoramic views apart from the bit blocked by the little clump of trees on the summit. The beech trees are growing on a Bronze Age bowl barrow. It's managed by the National Trust and is often busy because it's close to a car park. Still very nice though!

This is a great 6 mile 2 hour walk running through the glorious Rushmore Estate. Not a road to cross or walk on except those in the estate. Nice for dogs but they need to be kept on a lead for part of the walk due to animals.

Amazing views over the Stour and Lwerne valleys, as well as Blackmore Vale and the Fontmell & Melbury Downs. Well worth a hike and picnic on a sunny day. You can even ride your bike up when dry.

5月 7, 2020, Hambledon Hill Iron Age Hill Fort
Hambledon Hill is hailed as one of the best-preserved Iron Age hill forts in Britain and is one of the most iconic Neolithic landscapes in Europe. Towering 623 feet (190 m) above the Blackmore Vale and the River Stour, you are afforded breathtaking views which stretch into the neighbouring counties of Wiltshire and Somerset. The site, which is managed by the National Trust, is also considered one of the best examples of an unimproved calcareous grassland in England and is home to many rare plant and animal species.
