11月 21, 2024, Dark Lane Climb
A fantastic climb featuring a sharp hairpin bend near the top that adds a rewarding challenge. Spotting the house ahead signals you're almost at the summit, so shift into a low gear and enjoy the ascent! The descent is equally thrilling, with smooth roads and exhilarating twists making it a cyclist's dream.

9月 25, 2024, Bristol High Cross at Stourhead
This road runs alongside Garden Lake providing a beautiful view of the tranquil waters and the stunning Stourhead Gardens. Keep an eye out for the market cross, originally erected in 1373 in the centre of Bristol and relocated to Stourhead in 1764.

Amazing place. I was able to check out the shop and cafe, and have a peak at the garden, whetting my appetite to make it a day's destination some time.

11月 14, 2023, King Alfred's Tower
Alfred's Tower is a folly in Somerset,England, on the edge of the border with Wiltshire, on the Stourhead estate. The tower stands on Kingsettle Hill and belongs to the National Trust. It is designated as a Grade I listed building. Henry Hoare II planned the tower in the 1760s to commemorate the end of the Seven Years' War against France and the accession of King George III, and it was erected near the site of Egbert's Stone, where it is believed that Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, rallied the Anglo-Saxons in 878 before the Battle of Edington. The tower was damaged by an aeroplane in 1944 and restored in the 1980s.

3月 11, 2022, Alfred's Tower Climb
Just over half way up the gradient eases for a short distance. In the days of old, horses pulling a cart would be sent into a gallop to gain momentum for the steep section ahead. You are unlikely to see that nowadays but it is still known as "galloping plain" locally.

5月 20, 2021, Alfred's Tower Climb
old hunting ground...no matter how fit I was, it was always testing at the top when hitting 25%; last two ramps mean grinding it out no matter how many gears but a long recovery stretch when you hit the top to regain energy!

1月 18, 2021, View of Cucklington Village and Countryside
You might start looking at estate agent websites after meandering around Cucklington as the village and its views are jaw-dropping. Apart from far-reaching views of the patchwork countryside, you'll find a magnificent 13th-century church here too. Located between Gillingham and Wincanton, there are plenty of footpaths and lanes leading to this charming place.

9月 2, 2020, Bell's Lane
The road and fields around it were part of RAF Zeals Airfield between 1942-46. The control tower still stands and is now a modern house near the end of the road. A military plane on its way to the airfield crashed into the top of King Alfred’s Tower in 1944, killing the five American servicemen on board.

8月 29, 2020, Riverside Slipway in Nunney
On the opposite side of the road from the church is a small slipway to the river. The bollards on the roadside are wide and flat and make a good place to perch.
