Not Road bike suitable. Punctures likey. Verry muddy. MTB/Gravel bike fine.

After Rain, in winter, muddy and slippery under foot. At least 45+mm tyres. I guess, this is a fantastic trail in summer.

Stunning, nice gently rolling gravel road with climb and descent options. If approaching from the east or the west (i.e. trying to stay on the hill to connect to Grovelly or Monkton Deverill) please be aware that the byways entering are not so much fun as the wood itself.

Who says England doesn't have gravel? (just ignore the Pertwood section). Sherrington wood/Great Ridge is a bit lifeless compared to Grovelly wood over the way, but offers a more durable surface to spin through.

While it is a gradual descent it remains pretty pedally for the first hundred metres. The rut isn't actually that deep its just hard to get going initially. Longer than expected. Get a bit of speed up and you'll fly through it. Only attempt this West-East or you'll be cursing your route planning. Couldn't see the track to the north so had to cross the road, nice easy drop off to get you going on the other side.

Upper Woodford is a pretty village in the charming Woodford Valley. The Sarsen Way long-distance trail passes through the village, while the Monarch's Way skirts it to the south. Walkers are welcome in the local pub, the Bridge Inn, which serves traditional pub grub, has outdoor seating in its riverside garden and has a wood-burner for those chillier afternoons and evenings.

If you are sensitive to stingers, watch out for this one. It's a gradual descent so you can easily pick up speed on this narrow section. Enjoy the smells as you jostle past all the plants!

Great spot to stop for a breather or grab some refreshments before hitting the rest of the trial. food is great, reasonable prices and big beer garden. What's not to love?

Great Ridge is alway a good one to loop into a ride and is rideable (pretty much) all year round

Open 7 days a week lunchtime and evenings. Bike friendly beer garden.

17000 feet above this stone British Aircraft Corporation One-Eleven prototype airliner G-ASHG was on its fifth stalling test of the day. The aircraft entered a "deep stall" but never recovered sufficient flying speed. It crashed here 23 minutes after takeoff from Wisley Airfield. All on board were killed.
