A really interesting way of public transport. Busses that are guided in a kind of sunk rail and just are able to drive along this way. There's a very good cycling path along this guided bus lane. This is the section I travelled along, the whole guided bus lane is even longer since it continues to the southeast till Cambridge.

Parking is £2. There is a portaloo and a bin in the carpark. This hike was limited in what you could see, in August the trees and weeds blocked most of the view. For safety note that the pathway takes the narrow road that cars are entering and exiting. There are two crossings over the guided path where the buses are traveling at speed. The first part of the walk by the Ouse was lovely as was the last part on a field where you ton off by the weight limited bridge. I would imagine in winter the path would be a mush pit.

The bus whizzes through the yellow grain landscape like oiled lightning. The intercity bus from Cambridge to St Ivy rolls over a special lane bus track and reaches an impressive speed. Today he transports the four of us to the "Fen Drayton Lakes Nature Reserve", in the lake landscape we hike and do "birdwatching". “Fen Drayton Lakes was originally a flooded sand and gravel pit bordering river floodplains. Today the area is a magnet for a variety of wildlife including otters, dragonflies, ducks, swans and geese. Another of the endless straights found in the fens. Fortunately the average speed cameras keep the traffic from flying past too fast although the HGVs produce a heck of a gust.

The picturesque ruined gatehouse is all that’s left of what was one of the great religious houses in the country. Lovely setting.

We often stay in a hotel in Bar Hill and use this cycleway to head NW or SE on a good surface with no traffic. It provides a fast link to more interesting lanes further out. It must be fabulous for safe commuting.

Well away from the traffic, big kerbs to keep the buses away and wide enough for pedestrians and cyclists to not get tangled up together. Oh and very very flat for miles

Nice flat for a mind cleaner. Lack of traffic and climbs, can be a bit boring but can work on your cadence!

It's a beautiful stretch of road but there's no protection if the wind is in the wrong direction. However, if you pick it right, there's potential of breaking the 50mph speed limit 😊

Nice set of ruins with a museum, pretty church and quaint village green.

Absolutely, it's a cyclelane: straight from A to B, and flat/smooth too, good to get to work. You can do some interval training if you get bored but yes, it's not a country lane or a sportive route.

This is a former rail line, converted to a guided bus lane i.e. closed to traffic except buses, which are kept to their concrete "rail tracks". The cycle lane runs parallel, going through pleasant countryside and picturesque villages. Safe for families and segments alike & an easy way out of Cambridge.
