As at 20/4/25 this section of Route 475 to/from Church Road is blocked. There is no exit to Church Rd. Continue straight on to Winsor Place.

Built in 1280, this castle has a fascinating life story. It is the second largest castle and grounds in UK, slightly smaller than Windsor castle. The water defenses are now home to plenty of birds and the grounds offer fantastic views of this stunning castle

Hengoed Viaduct is an old railway viaduct that’s now a walkway and extension of NCN Route 47. It offers a nice view over the valley. The "Wheel o Drams" sculpture (locally known as "The Stargate") by Andy Hazell, is formed from a circle of coalmining dram trucks.

Caerphilly Castle has had a £5m investment into conservation and repair of the structure - from late October '22 the scaffold and sheeting that protected the works will be removed. Caerphilly Castle is the biggest castle in Wales, and second biggest in the UK. Wales’s very own Leaning Tower, even wonkier than that of Pisa — courtesy of Civil War gunpowder is probably the castle’s best-loved feature.

Not sure about opening hours because it’s pretty new but the owner said she’s going to be there as much as possible (every day at the moment)

The coal mining industry transformed the landscape of South Wales and one of the ways it did that was bringing about the construction of railways and, to span valleys, their accompanying viaducts. Hengoed's viaduct is vast and incredibly impressive. Thankfully, after 35 years of being completely closed, it's now a foot and cycle path, and part of the National Cycle Route 47.

With a cross slab found in the graveyard dating to the 8th-10th centuries, this site has clearly been of religious importance for a significant period of time. There was definitely a church here in the 13th century and some parts of this medieval structure can still be found here today. Much of the building you see now is newer – 18th century onwards.
