Some gates are pain to get the bike through loud easy turn handapbares lift front wheel

Exiting the Western arm of the Taff trail to join up with the eastern unpaved side, you are met with a steep drop off down a service tunnel. Cute stone arch bridge at the bottom and then another wall up to the Trevithick trail, though thankfully, you don't have to go all the way up. Having done a few of these valley cycle paths now, I can say this was the worst...so far.

better in the daytime but well lit at night.

Hengoed Viaduct is an old railway viaduct that’s now a walkway and extension of NCN Route 47. It offers a nice view over the valley. The "Wheel o Drams" sculpture (locally known as "The Stargate") by Andy Hazell, is formed from a circle of coalmining dram trucks.

The coal mining industry transformed the landscape of South Wales and one of the ways it did that was bringing about the construction of railways and, to span valleys, their accompanying viaducts. Hengoed's viaduct is vast and incredibly impressive. Thankfully, after 35 years of being completely closed, it's now a foot and cycle path, and part of the National Cycle Route 47.

Maesycwmmer (Welsh: Maesycwmer) is a village and community in the centre of Caerphilly County Borough in Wales, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire.

Such a beautiful and serene reservoir to visit.

Moss covered trees, a hidden track and a real sense of being lost... MTB or Dropbar Venture bike, either way expect a few short hikes around trail wide puddles, and don't forget your sense of adventure

This sculpture blew my train obsessed nephews mind. Good thing to explore with kids.

A very special place, a spectacular forest views. On a blue sky day the contrast in colour between sky and forest give me such a sense of peace, a great place to pause, and think. Access on foot or off-road bike is required.

Go there on a clear blue sky day...the views across the reservoir are fantastic, autumn colours further enhance the beauty. The late Victorian build of the dam and surrounding culverts are as fine example of stone masonry craftsmanship as any I've seen.

Nice smooth bike path. Good alternative to avoid roads, usually quiet, just mind the odd dog walker here and there.
