In addition to the Palace of the Marqués de Santa Cruz, which is a Renaissance jewel built between 1564 and 1586 by the Spanish sailor Álvaro de Bazán, Viso del Marqués is home to other places of interest: Church of Our Lady of the Assumption: This Gothic-Renaissance style church has a central nave offset from the presbytery, built on the remains of a previous church. On its walls, you will find the curious “Lagarto del Viso”, a stuffed crocodile brought from the Nile by the Marquis during one of his expeditions. Plaza del Pradillo: The center of the town is surrounded by the Marqués Palace, the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and the Tower of the old convent. AVAN Natural Sciences Museum: An interesting place to explore nature and biodiversity. Hermitage of San Andrés and forest park of the Valle de los Perales: A natural environment where you can enjoy the beauty of the Sierra de Viso del Marqués Viso del Marqués is a destination full of history and charm! 🏰🌿

The bullring dates back to 1645, making it the oldest in Spain. Its structure is square and is built in classic ashlar masonry. It combines the wood of its high galleries with footings and balustrade, along with the reddish-colored barriers, the white walls and the columns of the hermitage's façade. This unique hermitage and bullring complex is a place of great cultural and religious interest in the region. If you want to get more information or visit this place, you can consult the official page. I hope you enjoy exploring this historic corner! 😊🌟

The hermitage has its origins in the 15th century, although it is believed that the existence of the sanctuary is even older due to the Visigoth remains found at the site. The main nave of the hermitage, built in the 16th century, stands out for its Mudejar-style coffered ceiling. In the 17th century, the Casa de la Despensa and the chapel of the Virgin were built, where there is a pictorial group of Marian character. The dome with a lantern on pendentives of the presbytery was added in 1711 and is also decorated with paintings on a Marian theme. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the sanctuary suffered decay and deterioration, but maintenance and restoration interventions were carried out in the 20th century.

Together with the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady, they are the most prominent churches in the City of Valdepeñas. The current Church, belonging to the convent founded in 1596 by Juan Bautista de la Concepción, is in the classicist baroque style and was built between 1615 and 1632. In 1857, the complex, except the Church, was rebuilt after its acquisition by Sister María Cándida de San Agustín, becoming the Convent of the Augustinian Mothers.

A town in this area would not be complete without some kind of homage to Don Quixote. This is located in the center of the roundabout on Avenida Primero de Julio.
