This defense fortification was built on the remains of a previous fortress by the Order of Santiago, which placed the center of the Commandery of Castile there. It has suffered throughout history various processes of abandonment and inconsideration. In the 1960s a restoration took place that, with greater or lesser success, has allowed us to fit out this historic building as a public space. At the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, it underwent another adaptation process that, also, with greater or lesser success, has led us to reflect on museographic intervention.

The picnic area is located next to the road. You can find tables, shadows from the pine forest and a very pleasant panoramic view. The town of Génave is worth visiting. To do this, the closest detour is about three kilometers to the south in the next picnic area.

There are a few rest areas along this route, but this one stands out. Gives good shade!
