During the Civil War, the monastery was looted and partially burned. Nuns and their heritage were forced to flee. Many works were transported to Catalonia, sparking a heritage conflict that is still ongoing. In recent decades, works of art have been judicially returned from Catalan museums to the Sijena Monastery, turning the site into a symbol of memory, historical justice, and Aragonese heritage. Its isolated location in the Monegros mountains is part of its charm. The arid surroundings contrast with the monumentality of the building, giving it an almost mystical feel.

The road is not paved but is smooth and non-technical, although the upward slope will require some effort. The desert landscape is beautiful and ideal to concentrate on the activity.

Very nice desert area

Sariñena is located at 281 meters above sea level, north of the Sierra de Alcubierre and in a transition zone between the central part of the Ebro depression and the southern part of the Huesca plain. The town is located between the basins of the Alcanadre and Flumen rivers, which join a few kilometers south of the municipality.

Barbastro is an Aragonese municipality in the province of Huesca and crossed at the junction of the Cinca and Vero rivers. The city, with cultural and historical charm, is located at the foot of the Aragonese Pyrenees, on the first plains before the Monegros and a few kilometers from the capital of the province.

Naval is on the border of the districts of Somontano and Sobrarb. In this first area, the Somontano de Barbastre, an important winemaking activity is emerging, with wines of recognized national and international prestige.

This town, once an essential crossing point in the connection between Somontano and Sobrabre and France, has been known for its salt mines since Muslim times. It therefore has some interesting salt warehouses or "alfolíes".

The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Treviño is a 13th century church located in the Spanish town of Adahuesca. The church is located on the right side of the road that leads to the aforementioned town.
