The current building dates from the late Gothic period; the north portal of the church bears the date 1509. The interior, however, is Baroque in style. The vault was added in its present form in 1596. The monastery was dissolved by the Protestant ruler (Monheim had belonged to the new Principality of Palatinate-Neuburg since 1506). The pilgrimage ceased. Remains of the monastery are still visible in the present-day St. Walburg House and in the cloister. The church tower was completed in 1575.
