Bolgheri, inhabited by just over 100 inhabitants, is one of the trendiest and chicest destinations in Tuscany. It is a small village in the province of Livorno, a locality of the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, located at the end of a scenic tree-lined avenue, and is known everywhere for its red wines that are produced in the area. Big names such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Masseto and Guado al Tasso are in fact recurrent among food and wine enthusiasts and sommeliers, but perhaps not everyone knows that it is precisely here that all of them are produced. To tell the truth, such a concentration of world-class labels in such a limited territory is more unique than rare, but this is another of the reasons that drives people to visit Bolgheri. It is impossible not to be fascinated by the Viale dei Cipressi, the access road to the village of Bolgheri: composed of about 2,400 centuries-old cypress trees and almost 5 kilometers long, it cuts the Maremma countryside in two, starting from the oratory of San Guido and ending right in Bolgheri. Considered the most famous and well-known avenue in Italy thanks to the poems of Carducci, its origins date back to 1831 following the straightening of the State road Via Aurelia. Along the Viale di San Guido, originally remembered as a simple straight road, long rows of tall cypress trees were planted which, after the success achieved by Carducci's verses and the death of the Poet, were extended to Bolgheri in an evocative path of great charm. Its history is inextricably linked to the family of the Counts of Gherardesca and to Giosue' Carducci. In the ode "davanti a San Guido" the poet praises the Viale dei cipressi, today a National Monument.

The Castle of the Counts of Gherardesca welcomes all those who enter the village: the entrance door to Bolgheri is in fact located right under the tower. Of sixteenth-century origin, the castle is still in perfect condition, hosting the cellars in the lower part, while in the surrounding lands there are farms aimed at producing local wine.
