Capo Murro di Porco Lighthouse (Faro di Capo Murro di Porco) on the Maddalena Peninsula near Syracuse, Sicily. Frederick II of Hohenstaufen built it in 1240 to provide the best possible protection for the entrance to the harbor of Syracuse. The Castello Maniace was both a fortress and a royal palace. After an explosion in 1704, the interior of the castle was largely destroyed. The exterior was initially preserved, but the upper floors were later demolished.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria delle Colonne is the main church of the city of Syracuse. It rests on the foundations of an ancient temple of Athena, parts of which are still preserved. It was converted into a church starting in the 7th century. The building combines Byzantine and Norman elements with Sicilian Baroque.
