The Sierra de Alcaraz Greenway is part of a spectacular route that follows the old, unfinished Baeza-Utiel railway line. This greenway, ideal for hiking and cycling, stretches from Albacete to the town of Alcaraz, passing through a wide variety of landscapes, from agricultural plains to mountainous areas.

Attention. On April 8, the Albacete-Alcaraz greenway was closed due to highway construction in Balazote. A metal fence completely blocks the road, and I couldn't continue because no one could tell me how many kilometers of the stretch were closed to traffic.

The climb is a steep ramp along a poorly marked path. Then, on the way down, if you go left where the ruined wall is, there's a really cool and somewhat technical descent; watch out for loose rocks. Edit: In recent months it's been fenced off and access is no longer possible.

It is an archaeological site that is located on top of the hill of the Castle. You can still appreciate the excellent conservation of the structures and materials from the Ibero-Roman period. An authentic paradise if you find it curious to inquire about the history of our ancestors.

Wonderful area for cycling - highly recommended.

The route deviates from the track for a few kilometers passing through fairly steep slides and wooden walkways. The national highway runs parallel in one of the sections, resist the temptation to detour along it. Since the path connects immediately with the greenway after a climb with a tunnel at the end of it.

Following the bike path, you reach a point when you reach Acequión that disappears and you have to go along a "single track" that goes towards an old semi-ruined building. Flipping it over reveals the wall/bridge

This route can also be done with a gravel bike or even a road bike with 30-32mm tires. Some of the tunnels along the route have no lights and a bike light is recommended.
