The Estaña lagoons are a natural landscape formed by three inland lakes, also known as Ibónes in Aragonese or Estany in Catalan. These lakes form in areas where the terrain is at a lower elevation, causing rainwater and snowmelt to accumulate. Ibónes or estanys are much more common in mountainous areas like the Pyrenees, and their formation in a predominantly arid and relatively flat area is noteworthy.
